Frequently Asked Questions
What to Wear
Wear comfortable clothing that will not restrict your movement.
Please do not wear jeans.
It is advisable for women to wear tight tops so you are not worried about exposing your body when moving in certain positions, such as downward facing dog (see images below).
Eating Before the Yoga Class
After eating a meal it is advisable to wait at least two hours before doing QiYoga®.
Eating before class will mean your food will not be digested properly and you will not be able to have sufficient energy for the class.
What to Bring
We supply blocks, straps, blankets and mats, but you are welcome to bring your own.
By using your own yoga mat you keep your energy withheld on your sacred space.
Water
QiYoga® recommends that you hydrate your body before, during and after class.
QiYoga® is a highly detoxifying style of yoga and to gain maximum benefit we encourage you maintain a state of hydration especially after the class - it also helps to ground you (keeping you focused and present).
2. If you are pregnant All QiYoga® instructors can teach prenatal yoga so you are welcome to come along to any beginner level class and we can cater for you.
3. If you are a man Yoga was designed for men by men, so if you are a man you are very welcome to come along.
You will particularly enjoy the Dynamic Classes if you want to increase muscle tone and improve your fitness.
4. If you cannot touch your toes We have all got to start somewhere and in time (after regular QiYoga® practice) you will be able to touch your toes.
You can attend any QiYoga® class even if you can not touch your toes.
5. If you have never done QiYoga® It is best you attend the Back2Basics class to give you the foundation required before advancing your practice.
Back2Basics will cover alignment, assess whether you have hyper-extension (i.e. are double-jointed), and show you how to peform any necessary variations. As each person's body is different we all need to be shown variations to certain asanas, and this class does just that.
If you cannot attend the Back2Basics class at 6:30pm Wednesday evenings at the QiYoga® Clapham Studio then any Beginner class will be the next best step. Or try to get to a Back2Basics workshop, the details of which can be found here.
QiYoga® classes have a deep relaxation component at the end of the class. It is at this stage that meditation is employed to enable you to gain the full benefit of your yoga practice.
build up your energy reserves with Meridian Tapping
What's Meridian Tapping?
QiYoga® embraces specific meridian exercises such as tapping, energy sensitizing techniques and the drawing in of universal life force energy via the five main meridian points. These highly effective techniques in combination with the yogic breath - breathing into the lower lobes of the lungs and exhaling from the abdomen by tightening the transverse muscles and muscles around the perinium - the anus and pubococcygeus (pc) muscles - help to heighten one's ability to heal and strengthen the body and mind.
It is claimed that people experience health problems due to poor circulation and blockages of life force energy (qi). By learning to master the breathing process we are able to draw in fresh life force energy and exhale accumulated toxins: physical and mental. By disciplining your mind to visualise stagnant energy being expelled via the breath one can increase the speed and efficiency through their intention: power of the mind.
Meridian tapping is the mindful coordination of bouncing on the knees (to draw energy up from Mother Earth) in through the meridian points in the souls of the feet then mindfully tapping the meridian lines of the body in a particular order. The movement accesses qi energy to circulate throughout the body and therefore improves circulation. The tapping stimulates the brain, stimulates and strengthens internal organs, muscles, the nervous, the circulatory, and the immune system.
